A Start-Timing Detector for the Collider Experiment PHENIX at RHIC-BNL

چکیده

We describe a start-timing detector for the PHENIX experiment at the relativistic heavy-ion collider RHIC. The role of the detector is to detect a nuclear collision, provide precise time information with an accuracy of 50ps, and determine the collision point along the beam direction with a resolution of a few cm. Technical challenges are that the detector must be operational in a wide particle-multiplicity range in a high radiation environment and a strong magnetic field. We present the performance of the prototype and discuss the final design of the detector. PACS number: 29.40.Ka

Single-spin Transverse Asymmetry in Neutral Pion and Charged Hadron Production at Phenix

The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has measured the single-spin transverse asymmetry (AN ) for neutral pion and non-identified charged hadron production at xF ∼ 0 over a transverse momentum range of ∼ 0.5 to 5.0 GeV/c from polarized proton-proton interactions at a center of mass energy ( √ s) of 200 GeV. The asymmetries ob...

Results on Identified Charged Hadrons from the PHENIX Experiment at RHIC

The physics motivation of the ultra-relativistic heavy-ion program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is to study nuclear matter at extremely high temperature and energy density with the hope to reach a new form of matter called the quark gluon plasma (QGP). Among the various probes of the QGP state, hadrons carry important information about the collision dynamics along with the spat...

Polarized Parton Distributions and Qcd Spin Tests at Rhic-bnl

The RHIC facility at BNL will be operating soon, part of the year, as a polarized proton-proton collider. This will allow the undertaking of a vast spin physics programme, mainly by the two large detectors PHENIX and STAR. We review some theoretical aspects of this research programme which will allow, firstly to improve our present knowledge on polarized quark, gluon and sea distributions in a ...

Design and Performance of Beam Test Electronics for the PHENIX Multiplicity Vertex Detector

The system architecture and test results of the custom circuits and beam test system for the Multiplicity-Vertex Detector (MVD) for the PHENIX detector collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) are presented in this paper. The final detector per-channel signal processing chain will consist of a preamplifier-gain stage, a current-mode This paper presents measurements of the pro...

3 v 1 4 M ay 1 99 8 1 Spin Physics with the PHENIX Detector System

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has extended its scope to cover spin physics using polarized proton beams. The major goals of the spin physics at RHIC are elucidation of the spin structure of the nucleon and precision tests of the symmetries. Sensitivities of the spin physics measurements with the PHENIX detector system are reviewed. The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is under constructio...
